The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese in Anambra State, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to prove to Nigerians that he is alive.
Ezeokafor spoke to journalists on Sunday at the annual meeting with the Religious Council in the diocese at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka.

He observed that Nigerians were lamenting the vacation extension and were asking questions about the health of their President as he was not a private citizen.
The cleric said: “We pray that he comes back in good health; those asking about his state of health have the right to know where their President is and how he is doing.
“It is normal to be sick because he is a human being like any other person.
“The interest in Buhari’s state of health is like the way people, all over the world, were worried when the late Pope John Paul 11 and Nelson Mandela were sick in hospital.
“It’s high time he said something so that the suspicion and guessing will die down.”

Meanwhile, Advocacy for Integrity and Economic Development (AIED) has called on the national assembly to act on section 144 of the constitution.
A statement sent to DAILY POST by its publicity secretary, Mr. Oluwaseun John, noted that the President had been on vacation since the 19th day of January, 2017 and was expected to resume work as scheduled on Monday 6th of February, 2017.

It noted that in the letter transmitted to the Senate, the vacation was expected to commence on the 23rd day of January and it was for a period of ten days from that time.
Continuing it said, “It is important to note that the holiday component of the President’s vacation was emphasised over and above some health concerns. Nigerians were merely told Mr. President will ‘also’ use the period of his vacation to do some health check. It was not as Nigerians were told of any healthissues.

“The need for independent medical investigation is paramount. The signal which this sends to most Nigerians is expectedly one of grave and urgent concern on the state of health and mind of President Muhammad Buhari.
“AIED call on the National Assembly to hold a joint session for the sake of Nigeria and to activate the provisions of section 144 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) in other to determine the true state of health of the President and his ability to continue with the required functionality of his office.
“While we as a progressive and patriotic organization continue to offer our prayers to the President for quick recovery, it is expedient to note that the continuous functionality of the Nigeria state transcends any emotion and beyond partisan interest.

“We call on all elected members of the Senate and House of Representatives to put aside primordial sentiments and follow the path of patriotism with the interest of Nigeria as a supreme factor
